‘Thriller’ Video Was Released 39 Years Ago Today

The nearly 14 minute short film for “Thriller” was released today in 1983. While the monumental release is somewhat washed up in the overall celebrations of the “Thriller” album, it’s important to take note of it.

The social media app Timehop marked the anniversary with a bespoke image of their mascot, Abe the dinosaur, dancing with Michael in the video. Timehop allows users to look back at their old posts and memories on various platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It then creates a daily “timeline” for users, showing them what they were doing on that day in previous years. Timehop also occasionally features special events or anniversaries, allowing users to look back at memories related to those events. This image was one of them.
